Cumberland City Councillor, Steve Christou, has pledged to eliminate ‘Welcome to Country’ ceremonies if his party, ‘Our Local Community’, secures a majority in the local government elections in September.

Mr Christou, who served as Mayor of Cumberland City from 2017 – 2022, argued that the ceremonies have been “overdone and shoved down everybody’s throat,” and advocated for equal representation of all residents.
