Four-time world champion boxer Danny Green has been campaigning for nearly a decade to prevent coward punch deaths.

The former athlete told Ray Hadley young Australians in particular need to be taught coward punches are a “hideous, putrid, gutless act” which must be deglorified.

“They think that because I’m a fighter, I condone this type of cowardice.

“No one at my level, topline fighters of any combat sport … respects or condones it.

“It’s just disgusting.”

A “groundbreaking” study by the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine has found deaths have been declining since 2012, he said.

“It’s a massive shot in the arm for the campaign.”
