Flight Centre customer Micky Bennetts has been stung with a $225 fee for amending her ticket to London on Etihad Airways.

The 23-year-old didn’t enter her middle name in Flight Centre’s online booking system, because it said it was optional, however her name on her passport includes her middle name.

She was later informed that this could be an issue, and Flight Centre charged her $225 to amend the ticket to include the middle name.

However Flight Centre could not process the name change, and Micky was told to contact Etihad Airways herself.

The fee was $150, so Flight Centre had charged Mickey $75 for their customer service

Ms Bennetts told Jim Wilson it’s incredibly frustrating.

“When Flight Centre went to charge an extra $75 for basically just talking to me on the phone, that’s when I just got so angry and was so frustrated and fed up with the whole situation,” she said.

“Because $225, it was basically $32 per letter for my middle name.”

CEO of Flight Centre Graham Turner said Ms Bennetts didn’t need to put her middle name.

“You don’t need to put in your middle name, it’s an option requirement, you can if you want to,” he told Jim Wilson on 2GB Drive.

“But I believe … that’s not a necessity, so she was right in the first place, she didn’t have to worry about that.

“But I understand her angst … it didn’t need to be change and certainly she shouldn’t have been charged, and certainly didn’t have to go to Etihad to get it changed.”
