Fishers rejoice after state government flakes on marine park plans

Fishers are rejoicing after the state government shelved its plans to ban fishing in proposed marine park sites.

President of the Recreational Fishing Alliance of NSW, Stan Konstantaras, tells Ben Fordham they are “really relieved” with the news.

“It’s been a pretty intense couple of weeks of getting the message out,” says Mr Konstantaras.

“I’ve been doing this for a long time Ben, and I haven’t seen anglers mobilised like I have been in the last couple of weeks.

“We approached this in a really organised and logical way, looking at the science, the lack of baseline data and really saying, like everyone’s been saying, recreational fishing is a very low threat.”
