The firefighters who helped stop alleged Sydney CBD stabber Mert Ney have saved an elderly man from a burning home overnight.

He was rushed to Royal North Shore Hospital suffering smoke inhalation and remains there in a stable condition.
Among the firefighters called to the scene was the crew who became caught up in the Sydney CBD stabbing attack earlier this month.
The men were recognised as heroes after helping subdue alleged murderer Mert Ney.
Firefighter Gonzalo Herrara says the blaze overnight was the kind of emergency they’re used to.
“This is our role as we normally do it. Very different to what we experienced a couple of weeks ago,” he says.
