A 10-year-old boy is among three dead in a house fire in Sydney’s south-west.

Yesterday morning, 10 fire trucks responded to an emergency at a townhouse on Rottnest Avenue, Hinchinbrook.

A family of six were asleep inside when the blaze broke out.

Three people died and another five were left injured, including two firefighters.

It has been revealed there was no working smoke alarm in the home.

Fire and Rescue NSW Deputy Commissioner Megan Stifler told Ben Fordham three people remain in hospital.

“Both of our firefighters are in good spirits and have been released from hospital.”

Ms Stifler says over 50 per cent of house fires this winter did not have working smoke alarms.

“We cannot stress enough that to keep your family safe at night in their home a working smoke alarm is critical.”
