Fijian Opposition rules out ‘new arrangements’ with China ahead of election
Fiji’s Opposition Leader says his nation has no need to form a new agreement with China, in line with the Solomon Islands.
General elections will be held in the island nation by November, 2022, with Sitiveni Rabuka hoping to be elected to the top job.
He told Ray Hadley a closer relationship with China is not on his agenda and “we will not really need any new arrangements”.
“We have had the friendship and cooperation of our neighbours, our friendly neighbours and similar democratic system neighbours, like Australia and New Zealand,” he said.
“We would like to repay those traditional friends and I do not think there will be any need for us to extend a hand of friendship to China.”
