Fiji is a tropical paradise and a popular destination among sun-loving Aussies.

Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort is on the coral coast were guests can pay a small donation which goes into a special fund.

The donations a matched by Outrigger and used for development and upgrades across the islands’ schools and hospitals.

Peter Hopgood, now general manager of the resort, walked in eight years ago and transformed the resort and established the funding program.

“I’m truly blessed that I’ve been given this opportunity.

“It’s just a great family destination.

“90% of our chefs all started here as tradies and apprentices.

Mr Hopgood tells Chris Smith his plan is to become completely self-sustaining.

“We brought all the services in-house. All our laundry services, we have our own bakery.”
