Some drought-hit parts of New South Wales and Queensland are rejoicing, after receiving much-needed rain.

A slow-moving trough that started in Central Queensland is responsible for the downpour, combining with a series of cold fronts to bring rain across much of the state.

Just over 90 millimetres fell in Bourke over the weekend, Brewarrina has had about 70mm and Wagga received 55mm.

Dubbo Mayor Ben Shields tells Alan Jones they’re celebrating.

“We’ve had some rain. At my place I got 11mm.”

Alan Jones is heading to Dubbo on November 25 to broadcast his show from the drought-ravaged region.

Bourke farmer Rick Bennett was filmed dancing in the rain in his underwear.

Rick tells Steve Price the rain will provide a brief reprieve.

“We walked out and were that excited about the water laying around.

“Obviously, it hasn’t solved the drought problem but it’s solved the water problem here in the short term.”

Some areas missed out though, with the Bureau of Meteorology explaining the storm-based rainfall can be “hit and miss”.

The rain helped dampen bushfires in the north of NSW, but weren’t enough to extinguish the major fires.
