‘Fantastic news’: Churches rejoice as worship joins list of unvaccinated freedoms

Under the NSW government’s three-stage roadmap, religious institutions are being permitted extra freedoms.

Unvaccinated people will be allowed to attend places of worship when the state’s population is 80 per cent fully-vaccinated, toward the end of October.

Priest at St John’s Anglican Church in Dee Why Father Stephen Salmon told Jim Wilson “it’s fantastic news”.

He said every effort will be made to protect unvaccinated congregants, including with measures like social distancing and mask-wearing.

“There won’t be many.

“The unvaccinated are able to go to shops, they’re able to exercise and so on, and practising your religion is a basic human right.”
