Those hopping on a train today are being warned to expect delays.

Transport for New South Wales says services are significantly disrupted due to infrastructure damage from last night’s storms.

Buses are replacing T1 Western Line trains which are suspended in both directions between Blacktown and Richmond.

Some passengers are reporting delays of more than three hours.

Sydney Trains Executive Director Tony Eid tells John Stanley says it’s predominately lightning strikes that have caused the damage.

“We had this extreme lightening storm activity that hit Sydney pretty hard, taking out a whole lot of areas and a whole lot of our infrastructure.

“It’s one of those things that happens pretty quickly.”
