Experts believe taxpayer money was wasted on an ineffective coronavirus treatment.

The University of Oxford tested the antiviral drug Molnupiravir on 25,000 people who were positive for coronavirus and found there were fewer deaths in the group that did not take the medication.

Australia bought 300,000 courses of the drug before it was approved by the medical regulator.

Sydney University researcher Dr Kyle Sheldrick told Ben Fordham he warned back in January that the drug was ineffective.

“This wasn’t something that no one could predict.”
