EXCLUSIVE | Witness says Sydney Harbour Tunnel crash result of police pursuit
There are massive delays heading into Sydney’s CBD after a motorcycle crash forced the closure of all southbound lanes of the Harbour Tunnel.
All southbound lanes of the Harbour Tunnel remain closed after a motorcycle crash at about 1.45pm left the driver with multiple injuries and in a serious condition.
Traffic is banked back 10 kilometres into the Lane Cove Tunnel.
Listener Phil has called in to tell Ben Fordham it was the result of a police pursuit.
He says he was about 50 metres from the entrance of the tunnel when the motorcycle flew past.
“Shortly after a police car went straight past me… I don’t think it’s being reported that it was a police chase. The police car was chasing the motorcycle.”

He says he was stopped about 20 cars away from the crash and when he drove past he saw the motorcycle had crashed into the back of a white SUV.
“The motorcycle was just trashed. They had him lying on his side.”
Police have since confirmed they were following the motorbike involved in the crash after he was seen speeding.
A critical incident investigation has been launched.
All northbound lanes of the tunnel are still open.
