Former prime minister Scott Morrison is defending his secret multiple portfolios.

It’s been revealed Mr Morrison secretly took joint control of three cabinet roles during the pandemic.

The portfolios include health, finance and resources, which enabled him to override any decisions made by appointed Ministers.

Mr Morrison told Ben Fordham it’s “regrettable” that his role as second Finance Minister wasn’t conveyed to Mathias Cormann.

But he maintains the appointments were made as “safeguards” during “unprecedented” times.

“We had to put safeguards in place. None of these in the case of the Finance and Health portfolios were ever required to be used.

“The ministers were continuing to run their portfolios without any interference.”

The former prime minister doesn’t dispute claims he assumed a fourth portfolio of social services.

“There are no other portfolios I’m aware of. But there may have been others that were done administratively.”
