EXCLUSIVE: Police Minister Yasmin Catley responds to illegal Pro-Palestine protest

Article image for EXCLUSIVE: Police Minister Yasmin Catley responds to illegal Pro-Palestine protest

The Pro-Palestine rally which saw hundreds of people protest illegally at the Sydney Opera House has resulted in immense criticism of Police Minister Yasmin Catley.

Catley deflected blame falling at her feet for the protest being allowed to go ahead, saying decisions fall to police officers rather than politicians. She condemned the actions of those in attendance, but again said the decision to allow police to let the protest reach the Opera House was up to commanders.

“As the minister I have zero role in operational decisions. And nor should I, those decisions are for Police Commanders on the ground”, she also urged calm from the public telling Chris, “I really urge calm from everybody. Tensions are really high at the moment and, I just hope that this doesn’t continue to escalate”.
