ARL Commission Chairman Peter V’landys hasn’t ruled out an NRL Grand Final switch to Townsville, after Queensland’s latest COVID-19 outbreak.

V’landys admitted it’s a “crucial” 48 hours for the NRL with Queensland a chance to go into lockdown after five new cases overnight.

Earlier this week, the NRL announced this year’s Grand Final would be moved to Suncorp Stadium from Stadium Australia in NSW, due to its COVID-19 outbreak.

But V’landys told The Continuous Call Team the decider could be moved, if no crowds are allowed into Brisbane.

“At the moment it’s programmed for Suncorp (Stadium) and if all goes to plan it’ll be at Suncorp with a full crowd,” V’landys said.

“But if something happens and there’s a lockdown in Queensland and Brisbane, and we can’t have a crowd, we do have the option at the moment to go to Townsville (Queensland Country Bank Stadium).

“We want a crowd at the game, so we’ll do whatever we can to have a crowd.

“If Suncorp is closed, we have that option with Townsville.”

The Grand Final will be played on Sunday, October 3.
