The North Sydney Council has been accused of scrapping Australia’s national anthem at citizenship ceremonies.

Ben Fordham has revealed the newly elected Mayor Zoe Baker has been accused of leading the change.

Advance Australia Fair had been performed at North Sydney Council citizenship ceremonies for at least the last 10 years.

Former mayor, Councillor Jilly Gibson, moved a motion on Monday night to have the national anthem return but it was defeated.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the anthem should feature in citizenship ceremonies.

“North Sydney Council should be ashamed of itself,” Ben said.

The Mayor has told Ben Fordham Live the anthem is in fact still performed at citizenship ceremonies.

Ms Gibson told Ben Fordham “it’s simply not true”.

“I’ve been to citizenship ceremonies and it hasn’t been performed.”
