EXCLUSIVE: Qantas blames flight delays on Air Traffic Controllers

Article image for EXCLUSIVE: Qantas blames flight delays on Air Traffic Controllers

Qantas has blamed issues at Sydney Airport this morning on a shortage of Air Traffic Controllers.

2GB listener Jamie received a message from the airline which reads; “Due to a shortage of Air Traffic Controllers – your flight on May 8 may be delayed or cancelled.”

However the Government entity – Airservices Australia – has rejected Qantas’ claims, blaming this morning’s delays on the weather.

In a statement, they say:

“Airservices Australia has this morning enacted single runway operations at Sydney Airport due to strong runway crosswinds.

“This decision was purely weather-related – crosswinds on the parallel runways were up to 56 km/h and stronger gusts were possible.

“We resumed parallel runway operations by 12pm.”
