Waste company facing $1 million fine over big stink in Sydney’s west

BEN FORDHAM EXCLUSIVE

The Environment Protection Authority is taking legal action against a Bingo company in the Land and Environment Court.

Last year, the Bingo landfill facility was found to be behind a disgusting odour permeating homes in Minchinbury and surrounding suburbs.

800 complaints were made to the EPA over the rotten egg gas smell.

The EPA claims the waste company failed to have adequate controls in place to collect landfill gas and treat it to remove odours.

EPA Executive Director Steve Beaman told Ben Fordham up to a million dollars in penalties could be imposed.

“We really need to hold Bingo to account.”
