Energy upgrade to ensure NSW can ‘keep the lights on’ over summer
The federal and NSW governments have banded together to commit $102 million to improve energy reliability and bring down prices.
The project will improve the connection on the east coast power grid, with the money fast-tracked to upgrade the interconnector between Queensland and NSW.
The move will help mitigate supply risks posed by the closure of the Liddell power station in 2023.
Federal Energy Minister Angus Taylor tells Steve Price we simply need more supply in the NSW market.
“We desperately need to make sure that on those peak days in summer that we have enough supply to keep the lights on.”
