An elderly woman has been hospitalised after being choked with paper towels by two men who broke into her home in Sydney’s south-west.

Before noon yesterday, two men jumped a rear fence of a 78-year-old’s home on The Esplanade, Guildford.

The woman noticed the men approaching but before she could call the police they kicked in the door and forced her to the ground.

The unknown intruders allegedly choked her and shoved paper towels into her mouth.

The pair fled with her mobile phone and the woman was able to call police.

She was taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition with bruising and cuts.

An investigation is underway.
