An elderly man has shot another man in the head before turning the gun on himself during a domestic incident in Sydney’s south.

Police were called to a house on Ridge Road at Engadine just after 7am, following reports of a dispute.

A 56-year-old man was shot in the forehead at the front door of the home but somehow escaped with minor injuries.

Officers found an 81-year-old man attempting to flee the scene in a vehicle.

The man pointed a firearm at police before turning it on himself and pulling the trigger.

He suffered a gunshot wound to the neck and died at the scene.

Two teenage children and the estranged partner of the 81-year-old were at the home.

A critical incident investigation has been launched.
