The emergency landing of a flight to Tamworth on Sunday has jogged the memory of a similar rocky flight from decades ago.

A Qantas flight out of Sydney left those onboard shaken after complications with the aircraft’s hydraulics forced an emergency landing.

Ray noticed the story sounded awfully similar to an incident in the ’80s, where the Parramatta Eels were swept up in the chaos of a mid-flight emergency.

Having heard many conflicting accounts of the 1983 flight, Ray enlisted the help of former Parramatta utility Peter Wynn to clear up the facts.

“The pilot gets up and says look we have a slight problem, we are going to burn some fuel off,” Wynn recalled.

“There were two stewards on the plane, a female and a male, honestly the female lost it, she was crying, she was strapped into her seat…”
