Education Minister’s plan for training student teachers on the job

Article image for Education Minister’s plan for training student teachers on the job

The NSW Education Minister Sarah Mitchell is putting a plan together to begin providing early on the job training for university students studying teaching.

The plan aims to help with the teacher shortage as well as preparing teachers for work earlier.

“Every state and territory is having issues with the supply of teachers,” Ms Mitchell told Jim Wilson.

“Some data from NSW in 2019 … showed a 30 per cent effective drop out rate from our education degrees.

“We’ve got to look at how we’re engaging those students better … I think you can apply things much better that you learn in a text book when you see them in action.”
