A leading education expert says “we need to get back to basics” to deal with the education crisis facing Australian children.

This week we learned up to 40 per cent of teachers leave the profession within the first five years of their career.

Alan Jones says our teachers are “underpaid, undersupported and, sadly, underqualified”.

Australian Catholic University Senior Research Fellow Doctor Kevin Donnelly tells Alan “we really do have to do something”.

“Get rid of the computers, get rid of the kids going on the internet, being ‘knowledge navigated, digital natives’, it’s all rubbish.

“We have wasted millions and millions on technology and we’re going backwards.”
