Dutton warns ‘we’ll be condemned in the future’ if Russia is underestimated
Peter Dutton has issued a warning that echoes a line once uttered by Winston Churchill during a different period of history.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the conscription of 300,000 citizens to fight in Ukraine as invasive forces struggle to regain a foothold.
It marks the country’s first military mobilisation since World War II.
“It’s deeply concerning, no doubt about that,” Mr Dutton told Mark Levy. “I join with the government in condemning those actions.”
The Liberal Party leader appeared to echo Winston Churchill’s 1948 observation that those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
“We’ve had that stability for eight decades and if we think that dictators and autocrats are confined to history, we’ll be condemned in the future.”
