Drought-stricken farmers receive disgusting letters of abuse

Police are investigating after some farmers struggling through drought received abusive letters in rural NSW.

The Daily Telegraph reports the letters tell farmers, “if you cannot handle the drought, use a bullet on yourself” and “no one cares whether you live or die”.

The disgusting letters were found on properties in Dubbo, Walgett and Peak Hill last month.

Detective Inspector Cameron Whiteside tells Luke Grant police believe there are more letters out there.

“People are probably just used to thinking ‘I won’t report this to police’.

“Part of the reason that we put it in the media… is to encourage each and every one of these people to come forward and report them to police.”
