Doubled wedding capacity ‘still not enough’ for operators calling for cap’s removal

The cap on weddings and funerals will be lifted from 50 to 100 from Monday, but operators remain dissatisfied.

Navarra Venues Managing Director John Navarra told Jim Wilson while the progress is “fantastic”, “100 people is still not enough” for many brides and grooms.

He pointed out other seated events can go ahead in larger numbers, consistent with the four square metre rule.

“We’re no longer a young country anymore, families are getting bigger.

“There’s just no way you can have 50 people or even 100 people at an event.

“Why can’t … the government just make it easier on themselves? Just take off the cap, and let us continue working.”
