In 2022 both major parties are adamant the nation can’t return to the same approach to COVID of the last two years.

Labor MP Joel Fitzgibbon told Deborah Knight that despite a spike in cases and the rise of the Omicron variant, the government should not review the roadmap.

“We have to hold our nerve … you cannot keep locking down people and the economy forever.”

Industry, Energy and Emissions Reduction Minister Angus Taylor echoed his sentiment.

“It’s important we don’t overreact, I agree with Joel on this.

“The economic impacts of that are just too great.”
