The NSW Police Force’s potential trainees are being forced to spend thousands of dollars just to apply for the job.

Suffering from a shortage of recruits, the next intake of officers in June will be cancelled due to there not being enough applicants.

The applicants are having to cough up $17,000 just to qualify.

Head of the NSW Police Association Kevin Morton told Jim Wilson the situation is critical.

“NSW is the only state where we make our students pay for their training,” he said.

“Don’t give up on us and your dream of becoming a NSW Police Officer.”

Shadow Police Minister Walt Secord told Jim Wilson the government needs to remove the obstacles.
