An advertisement put up in the city specifies the preferred nationality of the people who apply.

The ad, which advertises a shared room, says they would “prefer Korean or Japanese” applicants.

Sydney University discrimination expert Professor Simon Rice tells John Stanley the advertisement is perfectly legal.

“The discrimination laws do actually let you make choices which suit you.

“If you’re going to share a place with someone then the discrimination law doesn’t apply.”
