Mat Thompson has slammed the behaviour of  fans after fighting and ugly scenes tarnished Saturday’s derby between the Western Sydney Wanderers and Sydney FC.

Three Wanderers fans were arrested for throwing flares, and fans were also involved in fights near Central Station as they arrived by train from the west.

Some fans also caused disturbances to traffic in Moore Park by blocking roads.

“I have been told the language and abuse from the crowd towards players was an absolute disgrace, Mat said.

“It’s simply not acceptable. The Sydney derby has become an excuse to have a fight.”
