Regulators have warned that our major cities face gas shortages in the coming days.

The Australian Energy Market Operator has told 100 industry players that they may be forced to cut supply.

The wholesale electricity price has also risen 140 per cent in the last 12 months.

Energy Users Association CEO Andrew Richards has declared, “This is the biggest energy crisis in 50 years”.

But amid the gas shortage, Ben says about 70 per cent of Australia’s gas is sent overseas.

He is calling on Treasurer Jim Chalmers to use his power to divert some of the gas going overseas to be used locally.

“If that isn’t a broken system, I don’t know what is.

“We warned this was coming and our political leaders squibbed it and failed to protect Australia’s national interest.”
