NSW citizens can now display their driver’s licence on their smartphone and use it as a form of ID across the state.

Five years after the idea was proposed by the state government, NSW has become one of the few places in the world where drivers can display their licence on their phone.

Available through the Service NSW app, the digital licence can now be used as a form of ID at venues such as pubs and clubs.

But the state government is warning people to continue carrying their plastic licence to “avoid inconvenience” as some venues may not be accustomed to accepting it.

Other states and countries may also not accept it as a form of ID.

South Australia is the only other state to use digital licences, having launched a similar app in May 2017.
