Australia is a land of innovation, but not all of our inventors have received the credit they deserve.

It was an Aussie who came up with the beloved Hills Hoist and the world’s first ever feature film!

But did you know that it wasn’t actually Lance Hill who invented the Hills Hoist in 1945? But a man named Gilbert Toyne who came up with the idea in 1911.

Historian David Hunt sits on the panel of a new show called Aussie Inventions That Changed The World, exploring the story behind some of Australia’s most iconic creations!

Dr Hunt tells Chris Smith it was an Aussie who first invented artificial ice and prepaid postage.

A few listeners called in to reveal their own knowledge of Aussie inventions, including the brother of the man who invented ultrasound machines!

“The first ultrasound machine took up two rooms!” Caller Evan reveals.
