Transport Minister David Elliott is accepting his political fate after announcing his retirement.

Mr Elliott’s electorate of Baulkham Hills is being abolished and the minister concedes he doesn’t have enough factional support to win pre-selection for Castle Hill.

He won his own seat at the last election with almost 70 per cent of the vote.

Mr Elliott told Ben Fordham he is frustrated, but his decision is “pretty definitive”.

“I’m a bit confused when I’m told I’m not conservative enough for the trenches.

“I don’t trust anybody more right-wing than me!”
