Former Liberal MP for Wentworth Dave Sharma believes the “hardman image media portrays” of Peter Dutton shouldn’t be what “characterises” him.

The Liberal Party earlier confirmed former Defence Minister Peter Dutton has been elected to lead with Sussan Ley his deputy.

Mr Dutton has pledged to take the party back to its conservative roots and represent the “forgotten people” of Australia.

Mr Sharma told Jim Wilson he is backing Peter Dutton and Sussan Lee in taking the reins of the Liberal party.

“He’s a very decent, kind, and generous human being,” he said.

“They’re very good listeners.”
