Horrifying footage has been captured of an alleged drug driver weaving dangerously across lanes of traffic on a Gold Coast motorway.

Pete Basmadjian and his family were travelling north on the M1 on Tuesday afternoon when they saw a black SUV behaving badly.

In a video posted to Facebook, the black car can be seen narrowly missing motorists as it veers in and out of lanes.

Eventually, the incompetent driver can be seen taking an exit, hitting the gutter and blowing two of its tyres.

But the horror doesn’t end there.

When Pete pulled over he says there were two kids in the car.

He also reports the female driver was “staggering and not very coherent”.

Police have confirmed a 21-year-old woman has been given a notice to appear for drug driving.

She will face Beenleigh Magistrates Court on September 19.
