Cuts for a crucial cause: 2GB nurse Jarrod’s side hustle for aged care residents

The “thorough and gentle” nurse COVID-swabbing 2GB employees in our Pyrmont office has taken up an unlikely side gig in aged care.
Jarrod Wolhuter told Jim Wilson his stint at 2GB has been a “nice reprieve”, “away from the bells and whistles of the EDs and ICUs”.
Now ready to move on thanks to NSW’s extraordinary vaccination rate, the nurse – who also happens to be a qualified hairdresser – will return to his day job.
He founded Original Nursing Barbers after noticing how a simple hot towel calmed down his dementia-affected client.
“I’m using barbering as a conduit to provide nursing assessments at the same time as I’m giving social visits to isolated people in nursing homes.”
Managing Director of Adventist Aged Care in Wahroonga Brian Swanepoel surprised Jarrod on the line, offering him an opportunity to come care for his residents.
“I’d would love to see that in action.”
