Cracking the brain cancer code: Jim Wilson’s appeal on late son’s birthday

Article image for Cracking the brain cancer code: Jim Wilson’s appeal on late son’s birthday

Today would’ve been Jim Wilson’s son Sam’s 18th birthday.

Sam passed away at just six years old after being diagnosed with brain cancer.

Jim honoured Sam, and brother Joey who lost his younger sibling when he was only nine, in a moving on-air tribute.

“I don’t know how he got through losing his baby brother, but his resilience was just amazing.”

In marking Sam’s legacy, Jim has called upon the government and everyday Australians to help fund medical research.

“It’s still terribly tough. I miss Sam terribly, but his memory motivates me each and every day.

“We have some of the best researchers in the world in this country, and yet they’re barely putting food on the table.

“We should be funding these brilliant medical minds … it shouldn’t be an afterthought.”
