Time slipping away for family pleading for final goodbye

Chris O'Keefe

Chris O’Keefe has vowed to make the case for a family losing their father to the Premier of NSW.

The state is limiting visitors to hospitals as Omicron runs rampant, allowing exceptions only for compassionate reasons.

Adrian de Silva was admitted to St George Hospital on Sunday with septicaemia and his family told “he could die at any minute”.

His wife of 50 years was allowed to visit on Sunday night, but his entire family has since been turned away.

“He’s in palliative care … [and] at any time he could pass away,” daughter Claudine told Chris.

“I will never get it back – I will never get this time to see him and he’s going to think he’s been abandoned and none of us love him, none of us care for him.

“This is my dad.”

Chris promised to take the de Silvas’ story to Health Minister Brad Hazzard or Premier Dominic Perrottet.

“The least we can do in this pandemic, and I know it’s tough on everyone, but we can’t lose our humanity.

“It’s a very simple request from a family who is losing their father. They just want to go and say goodbye…”
