Councillor Christine Forster has slammed the move to ban large, multi-day events at Hyde Park from next year.

City of Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore said damage to the grass is the reason behind the ban that will ensure Hyde Park will be available to the public all-year-round.

This means big events like the Sydney Festival and Night Noodle Markets will need to look for a new home.

Liberal City of Sydney councillor Christine Forster tells Steve Price the move is an “overreach” by the Lord Mayor.

“It’s a decision that she’s announced in the paper today… I heard about it when I read it in the paper this morning.

“The reality is that Hyde Park is the jewel in the crown of parks in the centre of Sydney.

“These are great, well established long-running events that attract a huge number of visitors, to the park and to the city… and I think that they should be able to continue to be held in Hyde Park.”
