‘Cough it up’: Defence Minister wants ABC to prove damaging claims

The Defence Minister is calling on the ABC to produce evidence to back up claims Australian soldiers killed an Afghan prisoner.

A letter requesting an apology and a correction has been sent to the national broadcaster on behalf of ‘November Platoon’ in response to an article published in October last year.

The article was based on an account from an unnamed US Marine who alleged November Platoon executed a prisoner in Afghanistan in 2012.

Peter Dutton told Ben Fordham the national broadcaster has to prove the claims.

“On many occasions our soldiers are treated, particularly by the ABC, with complete disdain.

“If the ABC has evidence, cough it up.

“At the moment there’s a cloud hanging over people without that being clarified.”
