Concerning reports show tech companies aren’t tackling online child abuse

An e-Safety Commission report is accusing social media giants of turning a blind eye to child abuse material on their platforms.

It’s found video-call platform Skype does not use available technology to automatically detect material – and takes two days to respond to reports of abuse.

Australia’s E-Safety Commissioner Julia Inman Grant told Mark Levy the results are concerning.

“They’re not alerting the authorities because they’re effectively turning the lights off.”
