‘Complex’ WestConnex sale hits hurdle as ACCC delay decision
The competition watchdog has delayed a decision on Transurban’s proposed acquisition of WestConnex.
The ACCC wants to further investigate concerns over competition issues if Transurban buys 51 per cent of the motorway.
ACCC chairman Rod Sims says the project is unusually large with a “very complex competition issue”.
A final decision is expected in September with Mr Sims saying they’ll take an extra six weeks to examine the project.
He tells Ross Greenwood “we’re taking the time to get the decision right so we don’t lock in anti-competitive arrangements”.
“We understand this affected the process… we have a serious merger process to go through.
“This is a very complex road project, it’s a very complex competition issue and we do have competition concerns.”
