‘Completely and utterly stupid’: Former Labor senator slams Albo for opposing tax cuts

Article image for ‘Completely and utterly stupid’: Former Labor senator slams Albo for opposing tax cuts

Former Labor senator Graham Richardson has slammed Anthony Albanese for his refusal to support the government’s tax cuts.

The Coalition promised a full $158 billion income tax cut in the federal budget, but do not have the numbers on the Senate floor to pass the cuts in full.

The Opposition has now announced it will not support the tax cuts for higher income earners, and will instead try to force the government to split the package.

Former Labor powerbroker Graham Richardson tells Ben Fordham Labor should respect how Australians voted in the federal election.

“This is completely and utterly stupid. I do not understand it, I won’t defend it even for a second.”

Political commentator Peta Credlin agrees, telling Ben it’s a foolish decision.

“Labor got their backside handed to them at the last election, and to keep this money back, to hold it back from people when they’ve all anticipated the tax cuts will head their way, I think it’s dumb politics.”

Assistant Treasurer Michael Sukkar tells Ben Labor should support the plan.

“Australians voted for lower taxes they didn’t vote for… Labor’s faux class war campaign.

“Everybody deserves tax relief and that’s what we’re going to deliver.”
