A community is rallying around a woman who has had her legs amputated after a freak accident.

Michelle Pillar lost both her legs in a horrific road accident on Victoria’s south coast a few weeks ago.

The 25-year-old had been building a career in livestock transport driving big trucks around the country.

The animal trailer she carries on the back of the truck rolled and got trapped in between a tree and a bridge.

Emergency services took 11 hours to get to her following the collision and amputated one of her legs on the spot.

Since the incident, her other leg has been amputated and a spinal cord infection uncovered.

The community is rallying behind Michelle, with farmers selling their cows to help raise money.

Her brother in law, Ignatius, told Ben Fordham there’s a long road to recovery.

“I can’t imagine anyone stronger to put up with a struggle like this.

“They say truck drivers are the backbone of the nation – I can tell you now she’s it.”
