Following backlash over new regulations which will make medicines with codeine prescription-only, the Federal  Department of Health gives their response.

Professor John Skerritt is the Deputy Secretary and is in charge of medicines regulations.

He tells Chris Kenny why the regulation is coming into play.

“There are many more people dying from codeine than heroin.

“It’s got very broad support from just about all the medical associations.”
