Coalition pledges $58 million to overhaul endometriosis treatment

Mark Levy

The Coalition has today pledged a landmark $58 million to build specialist treatment centres for endometriosis in every state and territory.

The 2022 Federal Budget would distribute $16.4 million to establish the clinics that will provide diagnoses and treatment.

Free genetic testing will be extended to prospective parents under Medicare.

UNSW Sydney Professor Jason Abbott told Mark Levy the announcement is welcome news for the more than 800,000 Australian women who have been diagnosed with the disease.

“This is the single biggest infrastructure that we’ve seen within the endometriosis community,” he said.

“It’s sensational news for all those people living with endometriosis.”
