Chris Minns to scrap controversial Trade Commissioner roles
NSW Opposition leader Chris Minns has announced he will scrap the Trade Commissioner roles if he wins the next state election.
Six NSW Trade Commissioners were brought back in 2020 for Tokyo, London, New York, Mumbai, Shanghai and Singapore.
They each carry a salary of about $450,000- which is more than the Premier.
“It just doesn’t pass the pub test,” Ben Fordham said.
The role of the New York Trade Commissioner remains unfilled after controversy surrounding former deputy premier John Barilaro’s appointment.
Mr Minns told Ben the roles will be abolished within Labor’s first term of government.
“This is money that we just can’t afford at the moment.”
